My Favorite Person

Late February & March in California

Time for a straightforward photo blog. February brought some cold weather and as you'll see, some SNOW on Mt.Diablo, just east of Berkeley. And in appropriate California irony, the Magnolia trees were in full bloom. Despite the rainy weather and the neverending hours spent on thesis writing, and treatment planning we still manage to eat pretty good around here. Best ever Banana Pancakes with oat bran, wheat germ and topped with blueberries, and Veggie Stir-Fry with tofu and nutritional yeast. Yum, yum. (Not pictured: 6, yes SIX, homemade pizza's we've devoured in the past week)





 

Book Club - March: The Discovery of Trixie!

This post is to honor the Book Club's newest (and cutest) member:
Miss Beatrix Starlyte Stuppi! 

Trixie and Anna welcomed us into their home for another great book club evening. We discussed The Discovery of Witches, of which 4 of the 6 of us finished! (The 5th person says she'll still finish it, and the 6th person, well . . . she's kinda busy . . . ;-)
Overall, people liked the book and would recommend it to a friend. Though I think I may have liked it the least out of everyone . . . I'm so picky! The main character, Diana just drove me bonkers!! Luckily, we were able to cast appropriate actors and actresses for the film so, if the author would like to know who we've selected, please contact us and we'll fill you in.

Our food theme was, FRENCH cuisine! Our plates were peppered with many forms of carbs and dairy products with a shock of veggies to round it out. Cheeses, bread, quiche, mac & cheese a la Whole Foods, Niciose Salad and homemade chocolate mouse!! Oo La La! A very tasty meal indeed! For those of you who would like to make the dressing from the Nicoise, here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
1/4 cup red-wine vinegar (I used closer to 1/3 cup)
2 1/2 tablespoons minced shallot
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
1 large garlic clove, minced and mashed to a paste with 1/2 teaspoon salt
Rounded 1/2 teaspoon anchovy paste (I skipped this to make it Vegetarian)
1 cup extra-virgin olive oil (I used about 3/4 cup, or a bit less)
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme
1 1/2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh basil
Preperation:
Whisk together vinegar, shallot, mustard, garlic paste, and anchovy paste in a small bowl until combined well, then add oil in a slow stream, whisking until emulsified. Whisk in thyme, basil, and salt and pepper to taste.

I'm Proud Of My Friend

My dear friend Geoffrey Arthur Drewyor wrote a book. (click to view in Kindle store)
 
I remember the summer he set out on this adventure and heard snippits of it along the way, receiving voicemails throughout his journey, and later through storytelling. Then, a summer or so later, I got to read a rough draft, of which I printed out, kept in a binder and read from front to back. Now, his PUBLISHED BOOK is available as an e-book on Amazon.

I am so proud of Geoff. So pleased to call him my friend. Tickled pink that he has completed this project, and I'm certain he'll continue to make great things. 

Thanks Geoff for inspiring me to venture out into the world with nothing but my feet and a sandwich. To traverse landscapes simply because they are there. To wander the streets of my neighborhood with new eyes each day. And most importantly, to dress in wacky clothes, climb onto a statue of a polar bear, and get eaten by fire ants.

You're one of my favorite people.
